You can do it either way. I've done remote datacenter backups to a central Unitrends without any Unitrends at the remote sites and if you have the bandwidth this works just fine. Your initial backup will take a bit but once you have the data staged and you are only moving the deltas we found it to work really well. With that kind of bandwidth (and having no idea of your delta sizes) a central Unitrends appliance will probably work really well.
