The advantage to the central server only is cost savings and overall simplicity. The advantage to having a "stage" backup device at each site, or the important ones, is the speed with which you can take the initial backup and, far more importantly, the speed at which you can restore should a server fail rather than a site failing. Although as branch offices, maybe that's not very important and the 20Mb/s restore speed is fine.
